Paris’s oldest couture atelier was founded in 1889 by Jeanne Lanvin. Originally a millinery boutique, Lanvin soon began selling versions of the clothes she had created for her beloved daughter. The label became synonymous with the iconic robes de style, a predecessor of Dior’s New Look along with Lanvin’s great skill with surface embellishment and decoration. Trademarks are a forget-me-not shade of ‘Lanvin Blue’ and simple yet striking cocktail gowns.
Today designed by the revered Albert Elbaz, Lanvin has experienced a resurgence of popularity through Elbaz’s luxuriously feminine designs and sculptural experimentation, and has become a trend setting label.
