The YSL Tribute Sandal. A Modern Classic (?) by Emma

I have to admit to being a bit torn on this one. There is no doubt that the Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Sandal is popular, hugely so amongst celebrities, but I can’t decide whether is is a true Modern Classic, or just an example of the ubiquitous ‘go-to red carpet shoe’. I am sure you will all have an opinion on that.

Launched in October 2007, the Tribute was an instant hit with its super high (although not by today’s’ standards) heel and ‘subtle’ platforms and 1970s ‘YSL Heyday’ vibe. There is also a 3″ (YSL Tribute 75) and 4″ heel version for ladies who prefer being a little closer to the ground. Super flattering and elongating to the legs with perfectly placed T-straps, I have been told that the YSL Tribute is surprisingly comfy to wear and very easy to walk in (but then aren’t all truly well designed heels?)

Produced in a veritable rainbow of colours and materials, ranging from animal prints to stingray, candy pink to electric blue the can be no doubt that the ‘Tribute Train’ shows no signs of slowing down. Like the YSL Arty Ring the Tribute has a devoted following with fans collecting them in every colour and textile they can.

Little point in me listing who wears these as it seems pretty much everyone does. There is no doubt that The YSL Tribute is a closet must have for a lot of fashion lovers.

When Hedi Slimane took over at YSL (sorry SL) last year rumours started to fly that the Tribute was to be discontinued. To the relief of shoe lovers every these rumours turned out to be unfounded. Maybe the fact that there was such comment on the discontinuing of a shoe means that it must be a Modern Classic?

Agree. Disagree?

PS The Tribute sandal is to be ‘reworked and upgraded’ under Hedi’s reign, so let’s see what happens there…..
